20-30 Somethings Meet This Sunday, April 27th

Our recently formed “20-30 Somethings” group is planning a potluck lunch after our second service this coming Sunday, April 27th.  It will be a big Sunday, as the 27th is also the morning of our ministry fair.  If you are able, bring a dish to pass.  It promises to be good food, fellowship, and fun.      brunch

Now that we are past Easter, we have returned to our normal Sunday worship schedule:

8:00am Holy Eucharist, Rite One, spoken

10:30am Holy Eucharist, Rite Two, with music and choir

Come to the Fair (the Ministry Fair!)

fair

This Sunday, April 27th, Calvary will be holding a “ministry fair”.  Many of our many ministries will have displays and information tables, and there will be guidance on how to become involved.  If you are interested in learning more about Calvary, or getting more involved, this will be a great opportunity to learn what’s going on.  As an added bonus, there will be coffee and pastries!  The ministry fair will take place from 9:00-10:15am, between our morning worship services.

Maundy Thursday Agape Meal Plans

Thursday Bread Baking and Agape Meal Plans

Calvary’s Annual Agape Meal will be tomorrow, Maundy Thursday.  This year we are turning the kitchen into a bakery.  People interested in helping with the bread baking can begin arriving at 9:00 a.m., and take part as they wish until the meal is served at 6:00 p.m.

In addition to helping bake the bread, we very much need people to bring vegetarian soups, as well as fruits, vegetables, nuts, cheeses, and drinks.

If you have questions about the meal, or how you can help, please contact John Bolton at jdmbolton@mchsi.com     Thanks!

(Most of) The Rain Held Off!

Umbrellas were needed for only a part of this year’s Ecumenical Palm Sunday gathering at Broadway and 9th.  Shown here are our Methodist friends, walking up the other side of 9th street on our way to the gathering.  “Blessed is he who comes in the Name of the Lord!  Hosanna in the highest!”

Collect for Palm Sunday

Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.  (Book of Common Prayer, Collect for Palm Sunday)

Maundy Thursday at Calvary

maundy thursday

Our Annual Maundy Thursday Agape Meal will be held in the parish hall at 6:00 p.m.  There will be a brief liturgy to help us recall the Passover Meal that Jesus celebrated with his disciples.

At 7:00 p.m. the Maundy Thursday liturgy will begin in the church.  This liturgy includes an opportunity for foot washing, and concludes with the solemn stripping of the altar to ready the church for Good Friday.

“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.  By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”  (John 13:34-35, from the Maundy Thursday Gospel Lesson)
