Community Outreach
Calvary Episcopal Charity Horse Show
Every October Calvary sponsors a society horse show at the Midway Expo Center. It is our largest fundraiser dedicated to community outreach. The proceeds of the show are distributed to local charities and nonprofits.
Loaves & Fishes
Loaves and Fishes is a program of the Catholic Worker Community. The “soup kitchen” is located at the corner of Seventh and Park in the Columbia Housing Authority apartment complex. Calvary is responsible for the Sunday night meal three times a month.
St. Nicholas Advent Bazaar
Calvary’s annual St. Nicholas Advent bazaar takes place on the first Saturday in December. Church mice, proudly made by Calvary Mousers for the last thirty years, and other craft items are for sale. Likewise, baked goods, books, toys and other gifts abound.
Habitat for Humanity Chili Supper
Every year Calvary hosts an annual chili supper as a Habitat for Humanity benefit. Usually held in February or March, the chili supper is a relaxed social event for all ages.
The Wardrobe
The Wardrobe was started by the various churches in town getting together to gather and stock good used clothing for anyone needing it. Sometimes people are victims of burned homes, theft, or just not having resources to get clothing. Clothing is donated by anyone, thus serving a purpose to help people to clean their closets and donate good used clothing they no longer need. Clothing can also be purchased by anyone--some young families buy children’s clothes regularly at the Wardrobe and the schools often search the Golden Oldies section for costumes.
Boy Scout Troop 707
The troop meets nearly every Tuesday (7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.) through the year in the Parish Hall. It is a scout run, adult-guided troop. They have a campout once a month.
Troop #707 participates in Columbia’s Adopt A Highway program, regularly cleaning a section of Stadium Drive.
Boone Hospital Service
In coordination with the chaplain at Boone Hospital, Calvary provides Sunday services at the hospital one month of the year (usually May). The services begin at 10:00 am at Boone Hospital Center, with participants meeting earlier to prepare. The services are televised via closed circuit TV and recorded for patient use during the week.
Support Groups
Calvary hosts regular meetings for both Alcoholics Anonymous and Cocaine Anonymous.
