Parish Life
Funeral Ladies
Calvary’s “Funeral Ladies” provide food and hospitality for all the funerals in the parish.
St. Claire Guild
Members of the St. Claire Guild regularly complete needlepoint projects for the church, most noteably dedicated kneelers. The most recent project was a kneeler depicting the story of Noah’s Ark.
Flower Ministry
The members of the Flower Ministry remove the flowers from the altar after the Sunday services and deliver them to parishioners. The flower deliveries are for those who are sick, those who are troubled, those who are celebrating milestones in their lives, and for those who do so much for Calvary.
Pastoral Care
Calvary’s pastoral care team assists the rectors in making hospital and other pastoral visits. The Eucharist is regularly offered to homebound members of the congregation, as well as those who may be temporarily unable to attend due to illness or surgery. Calvary has several licensed Lay Eucharistic Visitors who make private home visits.
Foyers Dinner Groups
Foyers Dinner Groups generally consist of four or five households who meet monthly for dinner parties, rotating hosting duties amongst themselves. Couples, singles and families are all welcome. Foyers groups are organized by sign-ups in the fall and spring.
Episcopal Campus Ministry
Episcopal Campus Ministry in Columbia is a ministry of the Diocese of Missouri for the surrounding academic communities. Through fun and activity ECM strives to live and spread the Gospel in the world locally, nationally, and globally. With two weekly gatherings, the Sunday 5pm church service and the Weekly Logos bible study on Wednesdays at 7pm, along with special events, ECM is becoming a vital Christian witness in the community. For more information please visit http://www.ecmbia.org or contact The Rev. Joe Chambers at .
Circle of Friends
Circle of Friends is a women’s group that meets periodically for fun and fellowship. We usually meet at a participant’s house at 10 am on the fourth Thursday of each month.
Archivists
Calvary has an active group of parish archivists.
Newcomers Committee
The Newcomers Committee runs various programs designed to welcome new members to the church. Generally, a newcomer is anyone who has attended services at Calvary for one year or less, but this definition is flexible.
Greeters greet at the 10:30 services, keeping an eye out for new people to welcome them and involve them in conversation and address their interests and needs. Fellowship provides refreshments for the parish at 9:00 every Sunday. Most of the Newcomers Committee members are involved in Fellowship as well.
This year the Newcomers Committee hosted two pot-luck dinners for new people to get to know clergy, greeters and vestry. These are interspersed with the two clergy sponsored brunches held for new people. Committee members help with these as needed.
Two of our members conduct porch visits: Each new person is visited by one of our porch visitors bearing home-baked goodies and church brochures. We also make phone calls: Another team of two is beginning to make a phone call to each visitor.
A bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall is dedicated to newcomers and their activities. We have a camera now and are making desultory efforts to get photos of new people. The name tag holder was completed by David Allen.
We focus on newcomers, but believe that our work benefits the whole parish membership through our interactive activities. After all, we were all newcomers once.
Memorial Garden
Calvary’s Memorial Garden is home to the cremated remains and memorials of many of our dearly departed. It also houses a beautiful array of flowers and greenery, routinely tended by a devoted gardening team. In 2006 a sculpture was added to the garden in honor of James and Judy Fallis. Those with questions about burial or memorial in the garden should contact the Parish Administrator or clergy.
