Participation
Participants in the Worship Service
Acolytes
Youth trained to assist in the worship by serving as crossbearers, torchbearers, or flagbearers.Young people of the parish ages 12 through 18 may serve as acolytes.
Altar Guild
Men and women responsible for getting the sanctuary ready for all worship services.They prepare the altar, vessels, linens, and vestments for each service as well as launder the linens and polish the brass and silver. Some are specially trained to assist with wedding services.
Lectors
Those trained to read lessons during the service. Both youth and adults may participate as lectors.
Eucharistic Ministers
Those who are trained on the local level and licensed by the diocese to assist with the Eucharist by administering the chalice.
Eucharistic Visitors
EVs attend special classes provided at the diocesan level and are licensed to take communion to those unable to receive it at church, such as nursing home residents, hospitalized parishioners, and those who are homebound.
Worship Leaders
Those specially trained and licensed by the diocese may help with services at local hospitals and nursing homes.
Ushers
Those who greet people at the door of the sanctuary, handing out bulletins and helping with seating, collecting the offering, carrying the Eucharistic elements forward, and guiding members of the congregation to the communion rail.
Greeters
Those who welcome newcomers as they enter the church on Sundays and introduce them to clergy and other parishioners. Greeters serve on a rotating schedule; all parish members are welcome to participate.
