Pageant Rehearsal this Saturday

Calling all Calvary Youth!  Our annual Christmas Pageant is approaching, and we have a rehearsal scheduled for this Saturday, December 20th.  The rehearsal will begin at 10:00 a.m.

We hope you will join us in participating in this year’s pageant.  And please invite your family and friends to come watch the pageant on Christmas Eve!

December 21st is “Super Sunday” at Calvary

This coming Sunday is a big Sunday at Calvary.  After our 10:30 worship, we will decorate the church for our Christmas services.  We will have the traditional hanging of the greens in the nave of the church, and we will place decorations elsewhere as well.  The poinsettias are always so beautiful.  There will be fun craft activities for children (decorating gingerbread houses!!), and adults who choose can go caroling.  We will finish up with a chili lunch in the parish hall, prepared by the rector.  Come out and help us prepare for Christmas.

Welcome to Advent!

Welcome to Advent, a season of quiet expectation as we ponder what it means for God to send His Son into our world.

Collect for the First Sunday in Advent

Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness, and put on the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Happy Thanksgiving

May your holiday be filled with friends, good food, and gratitude for God’s many blessings.

A Litany of Thanksgiving from the Book of Common Prayer

Let us give thanks to God our Father for all his gifts so
freely bestowed upon us.

For the beauty and wonder of your creation, in earth and
sky and sea.
We thank you, Lord.

For all that is gracious in the lives of men and women,
revealing the image of Christ,
We thank you, Lord.

For our daily food and drink, our homes and families, and
our friends,
We thank you, Lord.

For minds to think, and hearts to love, and hands to serve,
We thank you, Lord.

For health and strength to work, and leisure to rest and play,
We thank you, Lord.

For the brave and courageous, who are patient in suffering
and faithful in adversity,
We thank you, Lord.

For all valiant seekers after truth, liberty, and justice,
We thank you, Lord.

For the communion of saints, in all times and places,
We thank you, Lord.

Above all, we give you thanks for the great mercies and
promises given to us in Christ Jesus our Lord;
To him be praise and glory, with you, O Father, and the
Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

Discussion is facilitated by Rick Cotner.  The final sessions of this class will be Sunday, November 9, and November 16.  You may join the discussion even if you haven’t attended previously.

Mark your calendars!

Our annual Parish Thanksgiving Brunch will take place between services, from 9:15-10:15am, on Sunday, November 23.  We hope to see you there–all are welcome.

The next “Saturday for Seniors” volunteer event will be on Saturday, November 8th. The group will meet for a shared breakfast first at Calvary, and then go out to perform the needed tasks after the breakfast.  All of the scheduled days are subject to weather conditions.  Phone the parish office for information on how to become involved.

Calvary Parishioners will also be helping again this year with Room At The Inn, an ecumenical homeless shelter hosted and staffed by area churches during the cold winter months.  Calvary will help provide volunteers to staff this ministry during the month of January.

Saturdays for Seniors and Room At The Inn are just two of the numerous outreach ministries Calvary parishioners assist with.
