Ministry Parade October 5th

Sunday, October 5th will be our annual ministry parade during the 10:30am service. The parade provides an annual opportunity to survey the broad and numerous ways we serve our church family and the community, ways that allow our parish to demonstrate God’s grace to the world. It also offers the parish a few moments to consider what kinds of resources — people, goods, venue and money — it requires to continue God’s work. We invite you to come to the parade, and ponder ways to become personally involved in “building community in the Spirit of Jesus” together with others at Calvary Episcopal Church.

St. Francis
Blessing of the Animals!
Friday, October 3rd, 5:30 p.m.

This year’s annual St. Francis Blessing of the Animals service will take place in Calvary’s Memorial Garden at 5:30 pm on the evening of Friday, October 3rd.  All friendly animals are welcome!

This year, as part of our celebration of the Feast of St. Francis, our EYF youth are collecting pet food for dogs and cats from now until October 5.  The youth will be donating the pet food to Second Chance. If you would like to help our furry friends, bring the pet food to church, where there will be a donation box in the foyer.  Or, you can bring it to the evening St. Francis service on October 3rd!  Thank you!

Episcopal Campus Ministry Starts September 3rd

Welcome new and returning students, faculty, and staff! Many blessings to all who find their calling in the midst of academia. May this year be filled with new discoveries and relationships, and deepening faith in the One who is the source of all knowledge.

Plans are in the works to start the new school year with a new opportunity for college students: Wednesday evening worship and dinner fellowship! Starting next Wednesday, September 3, please join us for Holy Eucharist in the sanctuary at 5:30pm, followed by pizza and conversation from 6:30-7:30pm!

Are You Receiving our Weekly Newletter?

We publish one each week!  It lists all the upcoming activities at Calvary, and it includes a spiritual reflection as well.  If you haven’t signed up, you can do so by clicking the link at the bottom of this column and entering your email address.  We hope you will do so!

All Parish Brunch This Sunday, August 31st

brunchThis coming Sunday, between services, from 9:150-10:15, the folks who host our weekly Saturday Breakfast Cafe will be preparing breakfast for the whole parish.  It’s quite a feast, and we invite you to come partake, free of charge.  If you are in town this Labor Day Weekend, come enjoy some good food and fellowship!

Sunday, September 7th is Rally Day

We have programming planned this fall for people of all ages.  Come sign your children up for Church School and/or learn what we have planned for adults.  This also is the day when we kick off our Jr. and Sr. High youth groups for the fall.

We will meet upstairs in the parish hall from 9:15-10:15, between services, to learn what is being planned, to meet teachers, and to register.  Hope to see you there!

Columbia Faith and Values Reports on the “Blessing of the Combines”

It was a fun time of learning together, as we celebrated God’s bounty, and the human effort that goes into harvesting it.  We also talked about safety, and gained a new appreciation of the efforts so many make to help us enjoy the food that we eat.  In the photo, Fr. Knute is saying the blessing, as participants lay hands upon the combines.

Calvary Breakfast Cafe Continues!

The Calvary Cafe is “open for business” mornings from 8-9:30am, through the month of September. The Cafe offers a free, full, hot breakfast to anyone desiring either fellowship or sustenance.

Beginning in 2009, the Calvary Cafe was a modest continental breakfast serving approximately 12-20 of our downtown friends. By the time the Cafe rotated to the next church last fall, we were serving over fifty people a full breakfast. It was truly a bustling and joyous affair. The Cafe also distributes toiletries and some clothing, and donations are welcome. If you would like to participate in this ministry over the next three months either as a cook, server, or simply offering the ministry your presence and friendship, we begin preparing the meal at 7am and finish cleaning up by 10am. You may come to all or part of the morning. For further information contact Trudie Fasel at or Rick Cotner at
