Calvary is now on Summer Office Hours

Please make a note that the parish office is open from 9:00-4:00 during the summer months.  These hours are the best time to phone if you need to speak with someone personally.

Hydrangeas

Genesis 2:2-3   If even God needs rest, how much more so do we?  The reading from Genesis appointed for Trinity Sunday suggests that the pattern of work and rest was designed into creation itself.   Beautiful flowers unfold as they sink their roots into fertile soil.  We grow when we are grounded in times of peaceful prayer.  We live in a frenetically busy world, made even more demanding by the instant access of email and voicemail.  In such a world, it becomes all the more urgent that we set aside planned times to regroup, refocus, and re-energize.  Sunday worship is part of God’s plan for our health and well-being.  During the summer months, we hope that the time you spend at Calvary on Sunday mornings will be a source of strength and renewal.  As Psalm 46 says, “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Best Wishes to Area Graduates

gradIn this graduation season, we extend our congratulations to all who are graduating, and wish them God’s guidance and blessings as they transition to the next stage of their life journey.

We give thanks, also, for all those who assist young people in their pursuit of knowledge and wisdom.

O Eternal God, bless all schools, colleges, and universities, that they may be lively centers for sound learning, new discovery, and the pursuit of wisdom; and grant that those who teach and those who learn may find you to be the source of all truth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Pentecost is Approaching! Wear Red

imagesPentecost Sunday is June 8th.  The Feast of Pentecost celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the first followers of Jesus, as the story is told in Chapter 2 of the Acts of the Apostles.   The Spirit still empowers Christ’s Church for ministry, and assists us at Calvary to fulfill our mission of “Building Community in the Spirit of Jesus”.

Come and worship with us, as we hear the story from Acts 2 read in multiple languages.  Pentecost is also First Communion Sunday at Calvary, when we recognize children who have begun receiving the Sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time this year.

The bright red altar hangings make for a festive day, as we all seek to renew the Spirit’s fire that burns in our hearts with the love of Christ.

Come to the Fair, the Ministry Fair, that is!

Calvary is hosting a ministry fair this Sunday, April 27th.  Many of our many ministries will have informational booths and displays, and their will be information and guidance on how to become involved.  If you are new to Calvary or looking for a church home, this is a good Sunday to come and see what we do and are focused on.  As an added plus, there will be free refreshments!  The fair will occur from 9:00-10:15, between our morning worship services.

Bishop Benito’s Visit

Bishop Benito’s Visit to Calvary

Thanks to all who helped with Bp. Benito’s visit.  It was a great opportunity to practice our generous hospitality, and to learn more about the work of the Anglican Church in southern Mexico.  Bishop Benito would love to see ties strengthened between his churches and ours, and perhaps someday it may even be possible to arrange a trip to the Chiapas area to share of ourselves, and learn from the people there about what being a faithful Christian means in their culture.
