Adult Education and Fellowship

Calvary offers a number of opportunities for adult education throughout the week and throughout the year.

Adult Forum

The Adult Forum meets on Sundays from 9:45-10:25 a.m., September through May.  The Adult Forum offers a variety of presentations and discussion topics including Bible study, church history, theology, and social issues.

Newcomer/Inquirer Class and Confirmation

Each year Calvary offers an Inquirer’s Class for those seeking to know more about the Episcopal church. Adults and youth over sixteen years of age may be confirmed or received into the church after completing this class. The Inquirer’s Class is typically held in the late winter/early spring, during the season of Lent.  We also hold periodic baptismal preparation classes before special baptismal dates in the church calendar. Please contact the parish office for further details.

Tuesday Morning Bible Study

Meets weekly on Tuesdays at 8:30 a.m. for coffee, and then continues with an inductive study of Scripture, led by Fr. Knute.  This group is open to all, and is a good way to delve into the deeper meanings of the weekly lectionary texts. This study does not require advance preparation.

Theology on Tap

Calvary’s newest and hippest adult education offering meets monthly on second Tuesdays at 7:00pm at a local watering hole for fellowship and free-flowing conversation about theological matters. The venue changes monthly. Check out Calvary’s Facebook page for up to date information. All are welcome! Theology on Tap is a place where your presence and thoughts will valued, and where you can feel free to express them without any pressure.

The Seekers

Calvary’s co-ed morning non-fiction reading group, The Seekers, meets alternate Wednesday mornings, from 8:30-10:00, in room 101. The Seekers co-leaders are David Allen and Luke Lucas. We choose books with subject matter anchored in our Christian faith. Past books include The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis, Exclusion & Embrace, by Miroslav Volf, and God of Liberty by Thomas Kidd. For information, David Allen 443-4656.

Red Tent Women’s Book Group

The Red Tent Book Group, a book discussion group for women, opens the tent flap anew each fall for reading, discussion, and fellowship! Past books have included Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese and Ann Patchett’s State of Wonder. The Red Tent meets the first Thursday of the month, September through May, at 7:00 p.m. in the church library.

Daughters of the King is a prayer and service organization for women in the Episcopal Church. The St. Agatha chapter, chartered in 2006, meets monthly on the third Sunday of the month. Daughters of the King is a nationwide fellowship within the Episcopal Church.

Episcopal Campus Ministry

Area college students are welcome at all Calvary worship services and activities. We do not currently have a designated campus minister, but Calvary’s clergy are available for pastoral care and conversation.
