Adult Education and Fellowship

ONLINE BIBLE STUDY: now offered on Zoom.

Tuesdays at 8:30 a.m.  (This class is full)

A New Bible Study Group is forming now!

To get us started, we’ll meet the first time on Sunday, May 24 at 11:00 am and discuss the best day and time for our continued meetings. These study groups become, as one participant said, a small community within our larger church. Friendships build and strengthen as the group “wrassles” with the text together. Anyone interested in participating in this new study group is asked to contact the church office for the Zoom sign-in information.

Please contact the church office for the Zoom sign-in information.

Calvary is hosting a new online summer session of Monday School! This session will focus on the parables of Jesus for 6 to 8 weeks, beginning on June 1st. Classes will be held online via Zoom on Monday nights from 7:00 – 8:15 pm, including some social time as well! Meeting details to come. Please let us know which parables you’d like to hear about! Also please let us know if you would be interested in leading a discussion. Contact John Smith for more details.

Once we reopen, we will offer the following in addition to continuing our online gatherings:

Adult Forum

The Adult Forum meets on Sundays from 9:45-10:25 a.m., September through May.  The Adult Forum offers a variety of presentations and discussion topics including Bible study, church history, theology, and social issues.

Newcomer/Inquirer Class and Confirmation

Each year Calvary offers an Inquirer’s Class for those seeking to know more about the Episcopal church. Adults and youth over sixteen years of age may be confirmed or received into the church after completing this class. The Inquirer’s Class is typically held in the late winter/early spring, during the season of Lent.  We also hold periodic baptismal preparation classes before special baptismal dates in the church calendar. Please contact the parish office for further details.

Theology on Tap

Calvary’s newest and hippest adult education offering meets monthly on second Tuesdays at 7:00pm at a local watering hole for fellowship and free-flowing conversation about theological matters. The venue changes monthly. Check out Calvary’s Facebook page for up to date information. All are welcome! Theology on Tap is a place where your presence and thoughts will be valued, and where you can feel free to express them without any pressure.

Red Tent Women’s Book Group

The Red Tent Book Group, a book discussion group for women, opens the tent flap anew each fall for reading, discussion, and fellowship! Past books have included Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese and Ann Patchett’s State of Wonder. The Red Tent meets the first Thursday of the month, September through May, at 7:00 p.m. in the church library.

Daughters of the King:

A prayer and service organization for women in the Episcopal Church. The St. Agatha chapter, chartered in 2006, meets monthly on the third Sunday of the month. Daughters of the King is a nationwide fellowship within the Episcopal Church.

Episcopal Campus Ministry

Area college students are welcome at all Calvary worship services and activities. We do not currently have a designated campus minister, but Calvary’s clergy are available for pastoral care and conversation.
