We plan to meet every Monday night through June 17  to cover the first 12 chapters of the Gospel According to John. Then, we’ll break for summer before having another 8-week session in the fall to cover the last half of the book. An updated flyer is attached.

Come, risen Lord, and deign to be our guest

Third Sunday of Easter

O God, whose blessed Son made himself known to his disciples in the breaking of bread: Open the eyes of our faith, that we may behold him in all his redeeming work; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

1 Come, risen Lord, and deign to be our guest; no, let us be your guests and with you dine;
at your own table now be manifest in your own sacrament of bread and wine.

2 We meet as in the upper room they met; now at the table, blessing, yet you stand:
‘This is my body’: this you give us yet; faith still receives the cup as from your hand.

3 One body we, one body who partake, one church united in communion blessed;
one name we bear, one bread of life we break, with all your saints on earth and saints at rest.

4 One with each other, Lord, and one in you, who are one Saviour and one living head;
open our eyes to see with vision true; be known to us in breaking of the bread.

Ecumenical Palm Procession to Broadway and 9th Streets Downtown

Again this year Calvary members have helped organize, and plan to to participate in the Annual Ecumenical Palm Sunday Procession, in the heart of Columbia, at Broadway and 9th Streets.

We will process from Calvary at 10:15 a.m., in time to travel the two blocks and be ready for the ecumenical liturgy at 10:30 a.m.

Come join us for this festive and meaningful gathering, as Christians from the downtown congregations come together to remember the ride of Jesus and his disciples into Jerusalem.

It is right to praise you, Almighty God, for the acts of love by which you have redeemed us through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. On this day he entered the holy city of Jerusalem in triumph, and was proclaimed as King of kings by those who spread their garments and branches of palm along his way.  Let these branches be for us signs of his victory, and grant that we who bear them in his name may ever hail him as our King, and follow him in the way that leads to eternal life; who lives and reigns in glory with you and the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

Sunday, April 7 Service Schedule Change for Bishop Smith’s Visit

Bishop Smith will be visiting with us on Sunday, April 7th. We have several confirmations and a baptism planned.
We will have a changed worship schedule on Sunday, April 7. THERE WILL BE NO 8:00A.M. SERVICE

Here is the schedule:
9:00 a.m., Rite Place service in the church
9:15-10:15, Continental Breakfast and Bishop’s Teaching Time and Q&A Session
10:30, Baptisms, Confirmations, Reception, Holy Eucharist, Rite 2
Noon: Reception for Bishop and the Newly Baptized and Confirmed
12:30-1:15, Bishop’s Time with Vestry

Bishop Smith has announced his retirement, so this will probably be his last episcopal visit to Calvary. Bishop Smith has requested that all parishioners attend the 10:30 service, if possible. Families who attend the Rite Place may want to have one adult attend the Bishop’s teaching time to hear what is happening in the wider Episcopal Church.
It will be very special Sunday with the baptism and confirmations. We look forward to seeing you when our Bishop visits!

Lent begins this year on Wednesday, March 6.  Calvary will offer three services on Ash Wednesday, to help you begin your Lenten journey.

The services will be at 8:00 a.m., Noon, and 5:30 p.m.  All will be Holy Eucharist, Rite 2, with Imposition of Ashes.  The choir will sing at the evening service.

Please come join us to mark the beginning of this important liturgical season–a time to deepen our faith together.
