About Us
Calvary Episcopal Church is the “little castle” on the corner of 9th and Locust Streets in downtown Columbia, MO. Our community is progressive and inclusive, open and affirming.
Founded in 1855 and at our current location since 1899, we are committed to sharing the love of Jesus by caring for our neighbors, and the spiritual practices that help us to learn, grow, pray, and play together.
We are excited about our future while remaining steeped in the traditions of our Anglican roots and our historic place in the city.
Come and see! All are truly welcome here!
The Episcopal Diocese of Missouri
Calvary is a parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Missouri, led by the Rt. Rev. Deon K. Johnson. The Diocese of Missouri has more than 40 churches and ministries throughout Eastern and Central Missouri.
The Episcopal Church
The Diocese of Missouri is one of 108 dioceses and one mission in 22 nations and territories that make up The Episcopal Church. While The Episcopal Church is headquartered in New York City, we are not a national church – we are a multinational denomination. The Episcopal Church is led by the Most Rev. Sean W. Rowe.
The Anglican Communion
The Episcopal Church, established shortly after the American Revolution, has its roots in the Anglican Church, also known as the Church of England. Today, the Anglican Communion comprises more than 80 million members in 44 regional and national member churches in more than 160 countries. The head of the Anglican Communion is the Archbishop of Canterbury, Sarah Mullally.
LGBTQIA+ in the Church
For decades, LGBTQIA+ Episcopalians and allies have worked to make The Episcopal Church a place of belonging and inclusion.
At Calvary, we celebrate the diversity of humanity given to us as a gift from God, our Creator. We are proud to welcome and support gay, lesbian, transgender, questioning, intersex, asexual, and non-binary persons.
All are truly welcome here at Calvary Episcopal Church!
Rose & Meichele’s Story
Jubilee Ministry
In his earthly ministry, Jesus stood with the poor, the marginalized, and the oppressed. All followers of Jesus are called to carry on the ministry of caring for the least and the last.
The Episcopal Church calls this work Jubilee Ministry. Calvary is part of a network of parish and diocesan Jubilee Centers throughout the Episcopal Church working to meet basic human needs and to build a just society.
Our congregation works directly with several community resources to provide shelter, food, and other necessities for those experiencing homelessness and other neighbors in need throughout the Columbia area.
